An Pan Seok, the acclaimed director who left an indelible mark on Korean television, has died at the age of 65 after a battle with illness.
An passed away on the afternoon of August 12th due to complications from a cerebral hemorrhage, according to industry sources. He had been diagnosed with lung cancer last year and had been undergoing treatment. He continued to battle the illness in hopes of returning to directing, but his condition deteriorated, and he ultimately passed away.
The news is particularly heartbreaking as An was preparing to make his highly anticipated comeback in October with the new drama Love Doctor (literal title), starring Choo Young Woo and Kim So Hyun.
An Pan Seok was a television director best known for Behind the White Tower, Secret Love Affair, and Something in the Rain. His most recent series, The Art of Negotiation, aired last year and also earned critical acclaim.
His funeral will be held at Seoul National University Hospital in Seoul.
