Nana is making her feelings clear after the man convicted of breaking into her home and attempting to rob her filed an appeal against his seven-year prison sentence.
On June 11th, Nana shared a screengrab on Instagram of an article reporting that the intruder had submitted an appeal after being sentenced to seven years in prison on June 10th in his first trial on charges of robbery causing injury.
The singer-actor added clapping emojis and wrote, “A waste of time” and “All I can do is laugh,” seemingly expressing disbelief over the appeal.
The man was indicted for allegedly breaking into Nana’s home in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, on Nov. 15th last year while carrying a weapon. He was accused of threatening Nana and her mother, including choking them, and demanding money before the attempt failed.
At the time, Nana and her mother reportedly got into a physical struggle with the intruder, subdued him and called the police. Nana was injured during the incident, while her mother also received hospital treatment.
After being detained, the man claimed he had also been injured and filed a complaint against Nana on allegations including attempted murder. Police declined to forward the case to prosecutors, saying Nana’s actions were deemed self-defense. Nana’s side has since countersued him for false accusation.
Nana previously appeared in court and directed an emotional remark at the defendant, saying, “You find this funny? Look me straight in the eye.”
During the trial, the defendant claimed he “did not have a weapon” when he entered the home and argued that while he admitted to trespassing and attempted theft, he did not commit robbery.
Prosecutors had sought a 10-year prison sentence, but the court sentenced him to seven years.
In explaining the reduced sentence, the court said the defendant deserved punishment given the seriousness of entering a private home at night while armed, but also considered that the crime ended as an attempt and that the weapon did not appear to have been intended to cause injury.
