Junho is heading back to the small screen — this time as a water god.

According to reports on June 12th, Junho will star as the male lead in the upcoming drama The Embassy of Otherworldly Beings in Korea.

The fantasy romantic comedy follows a rookie human diplomat who is accidentally assigned to an embassy that manages monsters living in South Korea. There, they meet an ambassador whose true identity is a dragon.

The series is slated to air on tvN in 2027. Hierarchy director Bae Hyun Jin will helm the project, with Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha writer Shin Ha Eun penning the script.

Junho will play Cha Yeon, a water god who rules over water. As the head of the world’s most mysterious embassy, Cha Yeon is a mystical being and dragon who has been unable to leave Korea for 1,200 years.

The project marks the latest high-profile role for Junho, who has steadily built an impressive acting career since making his debut in the 2013 film Cold Eyes. He hit a career high with MBC’s The Red Sleeve in 2021, helping lift the drama from a 5% premiere rating to a peak of 17.4%. He also won eight trophies at that year’s MBC Drama Awards, cementing his status as a leading man.

Junho followed that success with JTBC’s King the Land in 2023, then continued his winning streak with tvN’s Typhoon Family and Netflix’s Cashero last year.

Anticipation is high for how he, known for making each role feel tailor-made, will bring a 1,200-year-old water god to life in a fantasy romance setting.

Junho is also keeping busy as both an actor and singer. His group 2PM held a concert at Tokyo Dome last month to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their Japanese debut, and they are set to hold a concert in Korea in August.

He has also joined Season 2 of Netflix’s upcoming variety show Kian’s Bizarre B&B, which is set to premiere later this year. His next project is the Netflix series Buy King, which is currently in production.
