ENA’s new Monday-Tuesday drama, Doctor on the Edge, has made a strong and refreshing debut.
The premiere episode aired on June 1st brought in a 4.0% nationwide viewership rating based on Nielsen Korea’s paid household standards. This marks the highest premiere rating for any ENA Monday-Tuesday drama to date. For context, the time slot’s previous series, The Scarecrow, started at 2.9% before wrapping up its run with a final episode rating of 8.1%.
Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, Doctor on the Edge is a human medical romance. It follows Go Ji Ja (played by Lee Jae Wook), a public health doctor stationed on the notoriously avoided island of Pyeondongdo, and the enigmatic nurse Yuk Ha Ri (Shin Ye Eun), who harbors plenty of her own secrets.

Lee Jae Wook left a powerful impression right from his first scene. His character is serving three years of alternative military service in a medically underserved area rather than active duty. He quickly showcases his expertise as a former university hospital plastic surgery specialist by calmly administering emergency treatment during a training accident.
However, his journey to the island gets rocky after an unexpected incident at sea triggers a phobia of open water. His first day at the Pyeondong Public Health Center brought plenty of laughs as he struggled to adapt to the unfamiliar countryside, at one point being carried by Ha Ri and recoiling in fear from insects.

Ultimately, Go Ji Ja and Yuk Ha Ri seem destined to get deeply entangled, especially given the classic local advice: “Three things one must avoid on an island: incidents, people and love.”
With their chaotic first impressions out of the way, viewers are eager to see how their relationship will evolve.
