Cha Eun Woo recently made a public appearance at a military band event while continuing his mandatory service.
Photos of the singer-actor circulated across online communities on April 29th, showing him in a suit and bow tie during an orchestral performance held on April 23rd.
These images captured him saluting the audience and have drawn significant attention due to his ongoing tax evasion controversy that first surfaced in January.
Cha Eun Woo faced tax evasion allegations after reports revealed that the National Tax Service had issued a notice for an income tax reassessment exceeding 20 billion won ($13 million). At the time, he expressed his regret, stating, “If I were not a soldier, I would personally visit each person affected by this and apologize deeply.” He added, “I will diligently follow the tax procedures and humbly accept the final judgment from the relevant authorities.”
Two months later, on April 8th, Cha Eun Woo posted another apology on Instagram. He wrote, “I respect the National Tax Service’s procedures and results and have paid all related taxes to prevent any further confusion. I will continue to handle the remaining procedures sincerely.”
Regarding allegations that he signed a management contract with a corporation founded by his mother and paid a lower corporate tax rate instead of the standard income tax rate, he explained, “During a time of many changes and confusion in my career, I established a corporation to stabilize my activities.” He continued, “Looking back now, there were parts of the process I didn’t fully consider, and I take full responsibility for that—not my family or the company.”
Cha Eun Woo enlisted in the military in July of last year and is currently serving as a sergeant in the military band. He is officially scheduled to be discharged in January 2027.
