Jungkook is keeping things grounded—even at the height of his global success.
In a recent interview released on Rolling Stone’s YouTube channel, the BTS member opened up about how he views himself as a solo artist—and why he doesn’t quite see himself as a “pop star” just yet.
“I’m grateful that people see me that way, but I don’t feel it yet,” Jungkook said. “I want to keep improving so that one day I can truly feel like, ‘I’m a star.’”
For him, one of the biggest benchmarks is surprisingly practical: language. “When I can naturally make small talk in English, that would be a turning point,” he shared, adding that he’s tried everything from Duolingo to other language apps. “In the end, consistency is what matters. I’m working so that native speakers won’t feel awkward listening to me.”
The self-reflection comes despite a string of major solo achievements. His 2023 song “Seven” topped the Billboard Hot 100, while tracks like “3D” and “Standing Next to You” also landed high on the charts—solidifying his presence as a solo artist.
Still, Jungkook says he approaches his work with a sense of ease. “I don’t tend to overthink things,” he said. “Rather than feeling stressed during the process, I enjoyed it. I did what I wanted to do, and the process was fun.”
Even as he balances solo projects with group activities, his connection with BTS remains unchanged. “Everyone has their own pace and style, but what makes us a team is creating music together and being on stage together,” he said.
Jungkook also recently contributed to the group’s latest album ARIRANG, released last month, with the track “Hooligan.” “The melody came to me as soon as I heard it,” he said. “It felt really rewarding when the members and producers said it sounded fresh.”
When asked if he plans to turn his personal memories into music, he answered with a laugh: “I might not—my memory capacity isn’t that big.”
Wrapping up the interview, Jungkook reflected on his role as the youngest member of BTS. “It’s a position I’ve been in my whole life, so it feels comfortable,” he said—closing on a note that perfectly captures his steady, grounded mindset.
