Lee Je Hoon and Ha Young are officially joining forces for SBS’s upcoming drama The Long Shot Trial (literal title), slated to air in 2027.
The new series is described as a bright, comedic legal detective story centered on a ragtag law office that turns seemingly hopeless cases into winnable battles. At the heart of it all is Kwon Baek, a former star attorney who now works as an office manager, leading his mismatched team with unconventional tactics.
The Long Shot Trial is aiming for a 2027 broadcast. The drama will be directed by Kwon Da Som, who previously co-helmed Connection and My Demon, with a script by Jung Jin Young and Kim Eui Chan, the writing duo behind the legendary Korean sitcoms Soonpoong Clinic and Three Guys and Three Girls.
Lee Je Hoon takes on the role of Kwon Baek, marking his first time playing a legal professional. Once a high-profile lawyer, Kwon Baek lost his license after becoming entangled in a bribery scandal and disappeared from the public eye. He resurfaces as the office manager of a shabby law firm he built with a group of misfits. Having experienced both the highs and lows of success, Kwon Baek returns sharper than ever—setting traps to uncover the truth, staging elaborate gambits and proving even more capable and unpredictable than he was in his attorney days.
The casting comes after Lee Je Hoon earned his second grand prize at a year-end acting awards ceremony last year for Taxi Driver 3, further cementing his status as one of Korea’s top actors.
The Trauma Code star Ha Young will play rookie lawyer Yeo Sim Hee, who may lack money and connections but makes up for it with dedication. Unaware that her longtime role model Kwon Baek fell from grace in a bribery scandal, she eagerly accepts his offer to join the firm and becomes its lead attorney. Initially disappointed by what seems like her idol’s downfall, she gradually realizes that the eccentric office manager is always several steps ahead. Under his guidance, she begins to grow into a formidable lawyer in her own right.
The Long Shot Trial is set to premiere on SBS in 2027.
