The title for Lee Jae Wook and Shin Ye Eun’s upcoming drama has officially been finalized.

According to SPOTVNEWS on February 6th, Genie TV’s new original series starring Lee Jae Wook and Shin Ye Eun, previously known under the working title Doctor Jonbeo will now be released as Doctor Sumboy (literal title).

The drama was initially developed under the same name as its original webtoon, but the production team ultimately decided that a title containing slang would be inappropriate for a television series. After internal discussions, Doctor Sumboy was chosen as the final title.

Doctor Sumboy is based on the hit Kakao Webtoon series Doctor Jonbeo, which has been serialized since February 2022. The story follows Do Ji Ui, a plastic surgeon who is sent to serve as a public health doctor on the notoriously avoided island of Pyeondongdo—often described as a living hell. Over the course of a year, he is forced to endure extreme conditions while treating an endless stream of difficult patients and residents.

Lee Jae Wook stars as Do Ji Ui, the doctor assigned to the remote island, while Shin Ye Eun plays Yook Ha Ri, a nurse who arrives carrying a mysterious past.

Anticipation is high for the series, which pairs two of Korea’s most sought-after young actors with director Lee Myung Woo, known for his work across a wide range of genres, including The Fiery Priest, Boyhood, One Ordinary Day, and Backstreet Rookie.

Doctor Sumboy is currently preparing for release later this year.
