Shin Ye Eun shared heartfelt reflections on her co-stars Kim Da Mi and Heo Nam Jun in A Hundred Memories, the 1980s-set youth melodrama that captures friendship, first love, and the fleeting glow of adolescence.
The series follows Young Rye (Kim Da Mi) and her best friend Jong Hee (Shin Ye Eun), whose bond is tested when both fall for the same man, Jae Pil (Heo Nam Jun).
Speaking about Kim Da Mi, Shin described her as “a genuinely warm person” with a comforting energy. “When I’m with her, I just want to lie down and take a nap together—she makes people feel completely at ease.”
Shin went on to recall a moment on set when she looked into Kim’s eyes and suddenly felt she had become her character: “There was something about the way she looked at me—it really felt like I was Jong Hee. Even when I doubted my ability to express Jong Hee’s emotions, just seeing her face helped me understand them. It was such a special experience.”
Turning to her on-screen romance with Heo Nam Jun, Shin explained, “I think acting is about blending each other’s strengths and finding harmony. We inspired each other and built something together.” She credited Heo’s calm, steady energy for grounding their chemistry, saying his reliability and seriousness gave Jong Hee “someone to lean on,” creating “a nice balance with Jong Hee’s unpredictable energy.”
Shin also laughed about returning to a school uniform for the drama, saying it made her “so happy” to wear one again, but admitted it might be her last time. Interestingly, while some viewers thought the uniform looked awkward on Heo Nam Jun, Shin completely disagreed. “Honestly, I thought it looked great on him! I told him so at the time, but he didn’t think so himself,” she recalled with a laugh.
Since debuting in the hit web drama A-Teen, Shin Ye Eun has steadily built an impressive résumé with roles in Yumi’s Cells 2, The Glory, Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born, and now A Hundred Memories. Looking back on her growth, she said she’s become less fixated on public reaction over time. “I used to search my name constantly and check every rating, but I think I’ve stopped doing that,” she admitted.
She called The Glory a major turning point, not a burden. “That project gave me courage and opportunity. So many people called me a good actress because of it, and it opened doors for me to show different sides of myself.”
Reflecting on her journey so far, Shin added with quiet confidence, “I think I’ve walked well up to now. But I’m also starting to think more about how to shape the time I have now—and what comes next.”
