The mother of the late Kim Sae Ron has issued a new statement to back up the family’s claim that her daughter dated Kim Soo Hyun while she was still a minor.
Kim Sae Ron’s mother broke her silence on November 25th after weeks of refraining from media contact. “I have gathered the courage to write this after much thought,” she began.
She explained that while she had initially accepted the advice of law enforcement to avoid media engagement during the ongoing investigation, she felt compelled to respond to Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team. She accused them of “inciting public opinion through false claims” using YouTube and causing “secondary harm” by disclosing the social media account of the so-called aunt.
“We are releasing some of the materials today to demonstrate that my daughter dated Kim Soo Hyun during her minor years,” the mother stated.
The new evidence centers on testimonies from acquaintances. One statement claims that Kim Soo Hyun personally drove an acquaintance to the airport when they accompanied the then-minor Kim Sae Ron on a trip to Jeju Island.
Another specific claim involves the naming of Kim Sae Ron’s cats. Her mother alleges that the cats, originally named “Patteok” (Korean word for red bean rice cake) and “Kkultteok,” (Korean word for honey rice cake) were renamed to “Dal” (Korean word for Moon) and “Gureum” (Korean word for Cloud) because of Kim Soo Hyun’s famous role in the drama The Moon Embracing the Sun.
The statement also mentions that friends aware of the relationship during high school would hint at it by singing the drama’s OST and asking others to guess who she was dating. Some testimonies reportedly confirm that Kim Sae Ron referred to him affectionately as “Dal-nim” (Mr. Moon).
Perhaps the most significant piece of evidence released is a digital memo purportedly written by Kim Sae Ron on September 28th, 2017, roughly 25 days before Kim Soo Hyun’s military enlistment.
The mother emphasized that the memo was extracted through forensic analysis and has not been altered. It includes lines such as: “Can’t I say I want to spend every day with you for the remaining time?” and “Soo Hyun, it’s not just because you’re going to the military. If you said that because you truly intend to meet me again, then I can wait for you now.”
The family argues these expressions clearly indicate a romantic relationship existed before his enlistment in 2017, when Kim Sae Ron was still a minor.
Meanwhile, Kim Soo Hyun’s side has completely denied all allegations of dating a minor, maintaining that their relationship began only after she became an adult. The actor has filed a defamation lawsuit against Kim Sae Ron’s family and others, seeking approximately 12 billion won ($9 million) in damages.
