Netflix’s hit unscripted series Culinary Class Wars 2 returns next month, bringing sharper missions and higher kitchen stakes.
The show once again throws self-made “Black Spoon” chefs against Korea’s elite “White Spoon” star chefs in a showdown where flavor alone decides rank. Directors Kim Hak Min and Kim Eun Ji—whose first season became the first Korean unscripted title to top Netflix’s Global Top 10 TV (Non-English) for three consecutive weeks—promise a huge surprise: “Season 2’s kick is an entrant no one could’ve imagined.” They add, “Chefs we never dreamed would compete joined as contestants. Some who would’ve been White Spoons last season are appearing as Black Spoons this time.”
They note that several top-tier chefs, with no need to prove themselves, joined to support younger cooks and the culinary industry. The season has already stirred buzz with confirmed appearances from Michelin 2-star chef Lee Joon, Michelin 1-star chef Son Jong Won, Kand orea’s first certified master of temple cuisine Ven. Seonjae, and 57-year-old Chinese cuisine master Hu Deok Juk.
Season 1’s popular blind taste-test duels and tofu mission return in updated form. For Season 2, the team trimmed team battles from two rounds to one, added more 1:1 stages, and introduced new rules to push the Black-vs-White war even further. Their guiding rule: “No more elimination-style twists.”
Most notably, the new season will spotlight chefs of different disciplines competing with regional Korean specialty ingredients. “After witnessing last season’s impact, we asked ourselves how the show could give back to the country and its local regions,” the directors shared. “We wanted to introduce regional specialties to viewers worldwide through the show. We worked hard to distribute and select the best local ingredients as evenly as possible.”
Culinary Class Wars 2 drops globally on Netflix on December 16th at 5 PM KST.
