Lee Jong Suk and Moon Ga Young’s new legal drama is quickly gaining traction. Law and the City is off to a strong start in tvN’s weekend drama lineup, premiering on July 5 and surpassing 5% in viewership by its second episode.

The drama follows the lives of five associate lawyers working in Seoul’s bustling legal district. Blending slice-of-life storytelling with office drama and a touch of romance, the show marks Lee Jong Suk’s return to TV after three years and features his on-screen chemistry with Moon Ga Young.

The premiere drew a nationwide rating of 4.6%, climbing to 5.1% by episode two, according to Nielsen Korea. That makes it the most-watched first episode among all 2025 tvN weekend dramas so far, and it’s also performing strongly in the 20-49 demographic, where it ranked No.1 in its time slot across all cable and streaming platforms.

In the early episodes, Moon Ga Young’s character Kang Hee Ji recognizes Lee Jong Suk’s character Ahn Joo Hyung at a work event and brings up a meeting they had in Hong Kong ten years ago. However, he brushes her off, claiming she must be mistaken. When she insists, he coldly replies with a short and dismissive text, leaving her baffled and frustrated.

Soon, the two are assigned to the same case. The tension builds as they clash both professionally and personally. He’s a cool-headed senior attorney with nine years of experience, while she’s an emotional first-year associate. By the end of episode 2, Ahn Joo Hyung begins to recall their past, including a long-forgotten kiss in Hong Kong.

Fans are already hooked. Reactions on social media and forums include: “I thought it would be a lighthearted drama, but the cases hit harder than expected”, “Lee Jong Suk and Moon Ga Young’s showdown was a diction masterclass. Solid casting”, “The supporting cast is hilarious too—great chemistry all around”, “Episode 1 was a little chaotic, but episode 2 pulled me in. I’m excited for episode 3.”

With strong performances and sharp dialogue, Law and the City is drawing comparisons to past tvN hits like Hospital Playlist and The Midnight Romance in Hagwon. Time will tell if it becomes tvN’s next breakout success.
