Netflix’s first Korean animated film Lost in Starlight wrapped up its press screening and roundtable on May 27th, with stars Kim Tae Ri and Hong Kyung joining director Han Ji Won to discuss their futuristic romance set in 2050 Seoul.

The film follows astronaut Nan Young, who dreams of Mars exploration, and Jay, a musician who’s put his dreams on hold, as they navigate love and ambition.

Kim Tae Ri, who voices Nan Young, said, “When I got the casting offer, it honestly felt like a dream. I was really curious how the director’s message would translate into visuals.” Hong Kyung, who plays Jay, added, “The script was incredibly compelling. I was really drawn to how the director would bring 2050 to life through animation.”

The actors also shared their excitement about participating in the film’s unique production process, which included not just voice acting but live-action reference shooting. “It felt like doing a stage play—I focused more on breathing with my co-star than on what I was doing and what face I was making. It was such a fun and exciting challenge.”

Hong Kyung shared, “It was liberating. Since the purpose was to capture various expressions, I could be bold and play freely.”

Both actors also participated in writing lyrics for a duet included in the OST. “It’s like a letter between Nan Young and Jay,” Kim shared. “It was an honor to have my voice featured in the soundtrack.”

Wrapping up the Q&A, Kim Tae Ri shared, “I think the waves of imagination that only animation can deliver will bring audiences joy. You won’t regret watching it.” Hong Kyung commented, “Under director Han Ji Won’s animation style, the vision of a beautiful future Seoul really came to life.”

Lost in Starlight premieres exclusively on Netflix on May 30th.
