Fresh allegations have surfaced about Korean filmmaker Hong Sang Soo’s strained family relations, with claims that the director was notably absent from his only daughter’s wedding ceremony.
In a recent video posted on Monday, entertainment journalist-turned-YouTuber Lee Jin Ho detailed that Hong, who made headlines for his relationship with actress Kim Min Hee, allegedly skipped his daughter’s nuptials held 2-3 years ago. “While Hong was known to deeply cherish his daughter, he not only missed the ceremony but reportedly didn’t send a wedding gift,” Lee disclosed.
According to Lee, an acquaintance of Hong’s wife expressed outrage at the director’s actions, saying, “How could he go this far?” However, Hong’s wife reportedly remained stoic, responding, “That’s just who he is,” without showing any change in expression.
The revelations didn’t stop there. Lee added that Hong was also absent from his mother-in-law’s funeral, despite the fact that she cherished him like his own son. “When we attempted to verify these details with Hong’s wife’s side, we were unable to establish contact,” Lee noted.
The news comes amid recent reports that Kim Min Hee, born in 1982, is expecting a child with Hong, born in 1960, with the baby reportedly due this spring. The pair’s relationship first made headlines during the production of Right Now, Wrong Then (2015), when rumors of their affair surfaced. They later confirmed their relationship, which caused significant controversy in Korea’s conservative entertainment industry.
