Professor Seo Kyung Duk of Sungshin Women’s University has shared high praise for actress Song Hye Kyo‘s unwavering commitment to Korean cultural preservation.
On Thursday, Professor Seo took to Instagram, reflecting on their shared experiences: “I still vividly remember appearing (on You Quiz on the Block) five years ago, introducing the Okmai Mine, the largest forced labor site during Japanese colonial rule,” adding, “It’s been wonderful to consistently work on meaningful projects with Hye Kyo for the past 14 years.”
The professor and Song have collaborated extensively, donating Korean language guides to prestigious institutions worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in Toronto. They’ve also contributed Korean language guides, Hangul signage, and independence activist relief works to 37 Korean independence movement historical sites globally.

“Hye Kyo’s greatest strengths are her ‘authenticity’ and ‘consistency,'” Professor Seo shared. “It’s quite famous how she declined an endorsement deal in China with Mitsubishi Motors because it was a war crimes company. I still clearly remember her telling me, ‘It’s only natural since I’m working with you on meaningful projects at Korean independence movement sites.'”
He concluded by revealing future plans: “This authenticity has been the driving force behind our 14-year collaboration. This year marks the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation. We’re preparing more meaningful projects together.”
