Ahn Bo Hyun is ready for another hit with his upcoming SBS drama, this time teaming up with new co-star Jung Eun Chae.
The cast and crew gathered on August 4th at the SBS building in Seoul, for the press conference of Flex X Cop 2. In attendance were actors Ahn Bo Hyun, Jung Eun Chae, Kang Sang Jun and Kim Shin Bi, along with director Kim Jae Hong.
Flex X Cop 2 follows Jin Yi Soo (played by Ahn Bo Hyun), an ultra-wealthy third-generation chaebol turned detective who uses his endless fortune to break through cold cases, and his new team leader, Joo Hye Ra (Jung Eun Chae). This second season comes two years after the original series wrapped, which pulled in a peak rating of 11% back in 2024.
Reflecting on the return, Ahn Bo Hyun admitted, “I was incredibly happy to see how well Agent Kim Reactivated was received. It also came with a sense of responsibility because the response was greater than I had anticipated, even though I always believed in the project.” He added, “Coming back for Season 2 felt like returning to school after winter break, as about 90% of the production team from Season 1 returned. It was such a happy and exciting reunion.”
He teased that the new season brings plenty of surprises. “Season 2 introduces many unexpected characters. Although it’s a weekly drama, there are elements that allow viewers to follow along as if they’re solving a season-long mystery,” he said, confidently teasing an upgraded experience. “I had a lot of fun reading the scripts, and seeing those stories come to life on screen felt completely fresh. I think the sequel will surpass the original.”
Jung Eun Chae joins the cast as Joo Hye Ra, the fierce new team leader of Violent Crimes Unit 1. “I was really curious how the show’s upbeat energy would expand after Season 1. I had heard so many great things about the cast’s chemistry, so I joined because I wanted to experience it firsthand,” she shared.
Ahn Bo Hyun had nothing but praise for his new co-star. “I watched closely to see if Jung Eun Chae would fit the detective look, but there was zero need to adjust her presence, height or tone. Our character dynamic as rivals turned out so well, and the thrill I get from our back-and-forth scenes is pure adrenaline,” he said.
This season dials up the luxury, leaning even harder into cases that only a billionaire detective could solve. Director Kim Jae Hong explained, “Whenever we hit a wall, we asked ourselves, ‘Did we not put enough into it?’ We felt Season 1 could have gone a little further, so we questioned whether budget constraints were the reason. This time, we’ve returned with a bigger scale and more spectacle.”
With SBS’s recent hit Agent Kim Reactivated setting a massive 23.1% rating record, Director Kim acknowledged the high bar. “It would be a lie to say there’s no pressure, but I believe a drama is judged on its own merits. Our goal was simply to make Season 2 better than Season 1,” he noted. “We prepared everything specifically to beat our previous records, process and results.”
The ensemble dynamics that fans loved are back, reinforced by an impressive lineup of guest stars. Actor Yoo Seung Ho steps in to add tension as a mysterious billionaire named Yoo Sung Won, alongside special appearances by Kim Eui Sung, Lee Hak Ju, Heo Sung Tae, Jung Chae Yeon, Jeon Hye Bin, and Kim Hye Eun.
As for his hopes for the new run, Ahn Bo Hyun kept his focus on beating their own benchmark .”My goal is to surpass Season 1, not to compete with other shows. I think I’d be incredibly happy if we could reach a 15% viewership rating,” he said. “We worked hard with the hope that viewers would want to see a Season 3. I hope everyone can sit back, have fun, and forget their worries while watching.”
Flex X Cop 2 is set to premiere on August 7th at 9:50 PM.
