Ahn Bo Hyun has officially earned his title as a romantic comedy king. In the recently concluded tvN series Spring Fever, he played Sun Jae Kyu, a fiery yet kind-hearted countryman. Paired with Lee Joo Bin, who portrayed the emotionally scarred teacher Yoon Bom, Ahn showcased his ability to blend rugged masculinity with a surprising compassion.

The highlight of the drama was the strong chemistry between Ahn and Lee Joo Bin. Reflecting on their partnership, Ahn shared that he had high expectations from the start.

“I only knew Yoon Bom from the script, but when I heard Joo Bin joined the cast, I knew we’d click well,” Ahn said. “We really had great chemistry. Filming in Pohang wasn’t easy, but I’m happy we wrapped it up so well.”

The internet was particularly obsessed with the pair’s “visual harmony,” specifically the height and size difference between the two. Ahn admitted he was aware of the “shipping” frenzy online.

“The feedback was so positive. People said our faces matched well, and I think the difference in our builds created a nice contrast. Joo Bin wanted to post photos of us on social media, and I told her to post as many as she wanted. I’m glad she helped create an environment where viewers could really get immersed in our onscreen relationship.”

Because the original web novel was known for its intense love scenes, fans were curious and perhaps a bit worried about how the TV adaptation would handle the heat.

“The writer and director told me, ‘You don’t need to read the original, and it might be better if you didn’t,’ so I didn’t,” Ahn explained. “I’d heard rumors about the scenes, but I assumed the network would want us to dial it back. Aside from the vet scene, there weren’t many nude scenes. But when viewers told me some moments still felt intense, I thought, ‘Well, then we nailed it!’”

For the intimate moments, Ahn chose to focus on his character’s lack of experience rather than trying to look too polished.

“I didn’t think a perfect kiss would fit Jae Kyu. I felt a little roughness would suit him better. I imagined him as someone who’s always been single, busy raising his nephew. I mentioned this to the director, and I think Jae Kyu’s awkwardness with touch made him more lovable.”

Ahn recently went viral for a photo of him looking teary-eyed at a wedding. While many thought it was from the wedding of Kim Woo Bin and Shin Mina, Ahn cleared things up with a laugh.

“The photo where I’m supposedly crying is actually from Kwak Tube’s wedding. Woo Bin knows it, so I didn’t feel the need to explain. If you look closely, the outfits are different. But I’ll admit, my eyes were a little watery that time, too.”

When asked if he cries often at weddings, Ahn shared a softer side, saying, “It’s strange, but whenever I see the couple saying goodbye to their parents, I get emotional. I usually try to pretend I’m not looking.”

As for his own marriage plans, Ahn said he’s not rushing. “I’m definitely jealous of my friends getting married, but work is so much fun, and there’s still a lot I want to do. Marriage feels like it’s a long way off for me.”

Fans won’t have to wait long to see Ahn Bo Hyun again. He’s already begun filming for the second season of the popular series Flex x Cop.

“It’s packed with action, and the script for Season 2 is even better than the first,” he teased. “The vibe on set is great.”

With Spring Fever ending on a high note and his next project already underway, Ahn Bo Hyun proves he’s one of the most versatile and exciting leading men in the industry today.
