Lee Byung Hun and BH Entertainment, the agency that he founded, were subjected to a tax investigation. However, the agency has responded that “there was no tax evasion.”

On the 28th, Aju Business Daily reported that Lee Byung Hun and BH Entertainment got audited by the National Tax Service last year and were levied hundreds of millions of won (equals millions of dollars) in taxes.

The report elaborated that this tax investigation may be related to real estate investment using expenses for Lee Byung Hun’s corporate project. The actor bought a 10-story building in Yangpyeong-dong in 2018 with the budget of the corporate project that he has a 100% stake in, then sold it in 2021, making a profit of 10 billion won (about $7.6 million).

Not long after, BH Entertainment spoke up about the issue, stating, “It’s true that we were fined by the National Tax Service, but it wasn’t because of tax evasion.” The company explained, “We had to pay an additional fee because of the difference in the deposit date of the actor’s modeling fee and because we wrote up the bonuses the actor gave to the employees personally as the company’s expenses.”
