Squid Game creator Hwang Dong Hyuk revealed that he is in talks with Netflix for its third season. Up until now, the showrunner had only mentioned a second season of the hit show. However, later that day, Netflix officially stated that nothing had been set in stone yet.
Netflix told Edaily on December 28th, “We are discussing various possibilities for Squid Game, including the production of its third season. However, everything is still up in the air yet.”
Previously, Hwang Dong Hyuk had an online interview with KBS News Line. The creator said, “I’m in talks with Netflix over season 2 as well as season 3.”
Squid Game has continued its record-breaking streak, taking the title of the most-watched Netflix original series of all time. Recently, Netflix officially renewed the series for a second installment, fueled by the global popularity of its first season.
“I believe we will come to a conclusion any time soon,” said Hwang Dong Hyuk. He added, “We are aware that a lot of people are waiting, so we are preparing for the next season with a positive outlook.”
In addition, the director hinted that Seong Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae) would be leading the story in the second season. “The main plot of the upcoming season will tell the story of the people that Gi Hun meets and the people he chases after.”
