Lee Hyori will be hosting the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (2021 MAMA). She will make history as the first female host in the event’s history.
MAMA’s host stands as a messenger that connects artists with global music fans as well as a storyteller that conveys messages and values of the event.
Previously, Song Joong Ki, Lee Seung Gi, Song Seung Heon, PSY, Lee Byung Hun, Park Bo Gum, Jung Hae In, and more have hosted the event, drawing k-pop fans from across the world.
Mnet revealed, “With the concept of ‘MAKE SOME NOISE,’ 2021 MAMA plans to show the world the renewed and enhanced power of music to respect the value of difference and the importance of shattering the prejudices. We asked Lee Hyori to join us as the host because we believed she embodied the values we wanted to pursue for this year’s event.
2021 MAMA will introduce additional global indicators to the screening criteria to further strengthen its influence as a worldwide music award. Until last year, music data collected by Gaon Chart, Twitter, and YouTube were reflected in the results. However, this year, they will add Apple Music’s streaming data into the criteria to identify tendencies and trending topics among global K-pop fans.
2021 MAMA will live stream worldwide at 6 PM on December 11th KST.
