Former iKON member B.I was put on probation in the first trial.

On the afternoon of the 10th, B.I attended the first trial regarding his illegal drug use at the Seoul Central District Court.

Earlier, the prosecution demanded a three-year prison sentence for B.I and a fine of 1.5 million KRW (about $1,300). And today, the court sentenced the artist to three years in prison and four years of probation. In addition, they order 80 hours of community service, 40 hours of drug treatment, and a fine of $1,300.

The court stated, “Drug crime has a high risk of recidivism and can have a negative effect on society as a whole. Considering the number of times he used it (the drug), it cannot be regarded as a simple curiosity. And since he is a celebrity, he can dilute the awareness of drugs, which has a huge negative impact on society.”

Regarding the sentence, they added, “But he had admitted to all charges and is reflecting on his actions. And we have also considered the fact that he’s a first-time offender.”

Immediately after the sentencing, B.I shared, “I will live while reflecting and looking back on my actions. I want to live my life as I try to become a person who can be forgiven by those whom I have caused pain. Once again, I bow my head down and apologize to the people.”

B.I. is facing charges of illegally possessing and using the cannabis and LSD that he purchased from former trainee “A” around April and May in 2016. “A” has also accused YG entertainment of obstructing B.I’s investigation.
