On a recent episode of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, themed “My Destiny,” Kim Soo Hyun shared insights into his illustrious career and the personal struggles that came with early fame.
The actor discussed various topics, including reuniting with Jeon Ji Hyun for the drama My Love from the Star after their collaboration in The Thieves. Kim Soo Hyun expressed his gratitude, saying, “I was thankful to meet her again after ‘The Thieves.'”
He added, “Looking back, I realize how much of the comedic acting that Cheon Song Yi did was something I had to digest a lot in ‘Queen of Tears.'” He recently made his grand comeback with Kim Ji Won in the rom-com Queen of Tears. Admiring Jeon’s talent, Kim remarked, “Once again, I was amazed at how difficult her role was. She’s truly an expert.”
Kim then opened up about the immense pressure he felt after becoming the youngest actor to win the Grand Prize at the KBS Drama Awards at the age of 27 for his role in The Producer in 2015. “Thinking about it now, it was a good time, and I had a lot to be thankful for, but at that moment, I didn’t fully enjoy it,” he shared.
He continued, “Feeling embarrassed by the love I was receiving, I wondered if people only needed my characters and not the person behind them. I felt like I had to hide and protect myself from losing anything.” Kim looked back at those days, recalling, “I thought I had to be better, to protect everything without causing any scandals. I lived as if I was being pushed even though no one was pushing me.”
He concluded with reflections on his military service, “Going to the military after turning 30 was a blessing for me. It was a time for me to organize my thoughts and feelings, and I physically and mentally became stronger.”
