Netflix’s Possible Love has been officially selected for the Special Presentations section of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival.
Running from September 10th to 20th, the festival will host the film’s North American premiere.
Possible Love follows two married couples — a laid-off worker and his wife, and a documentary filmmaker and her husband — whose lives collide while making a documentary, forcing them to confront their differences and hidden desires.
The film marks acclaimed director Lee Chang Dong’s first feature in eight years. He is known for internationally celebrated films including Green Fish, A Peppermint Candy, Secret Sunshine and Burning.
TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey praised Lee as “an artist of overwhelming power and extraordinary delicacy.”
“‘Possible Love’ is a powerful exploration of marriage, class and cinema itself,” Bailey said. “It further confirms his standing as one of the greatest filmmakers working today.”
The Special Presentations lineup spotlights high-profile new films from internationally acclaimed actors and directors. Previous Korean selections include Parasite, Decision to Leave, The Age of Shadows and The Handmaiden.
The newly released first-look still also teases the complicated dynamic between Mi Ok (played by Jeon Do Yeon), Ho Seok (Sol Kyung Gu), Sang Woo (Zo In Sung) and Ye Ji (Cho Yeo Jeong). It shows the four standing side by side on a beach, each seemingly lost in their own thoughts and raising questions about what brought them together.
Possible Love will be released on Netflix.
