The Second Signal, the long-delayed sequel to tvN’s hit crime thriller Signal, is reportedly set to premiere on December 7th, potentially marking retired actor Cho Jin Woong‘s final screen appearance.
According to MyDaily on October 25th, the series will air on Mondays and Tuesdays, with its first two episodes scheduled to premiere together on December 7th. The premiere was reportedly pushed back one week from its original November 30th date.
However, a tvN representative told Star News, “Nothing has been confirmed.”
Originally scheduled for June as part of tvN’s 20th anniversary celebrations, the sequel was postponed indefinitely following revelations about Cho’s juvenile criminal record, which prompted his retirement from the industry.
The actor reportedly spent time in juvenile detention for offenses committed during his high school years, including vehicle theft, with reports also alleging involvement in a sexual assault case.
Filming wrapped in August 2025, before the controversy surfaced. Producers reportedly considered removing Cho’s scenes or using AI to modify the footage but ultimately decided to retain his performance due to his extensive screen time.
While the series was initially expected to air without promotional activities, the production team is now reportedly considering a prerecorded press conference featuring cast members other than Cho.
The original Signal, starring Lee Je Hoon, Kim Hye Soo and Cho Jin Woong, follows detectives communicating across different time periods through a mysterious walkie-talkie to solve cold cases. Written by Kim Eun Hee, the 2016 series became a hit and is returning with its original leads.
tvN has yet to officially confirm the sequel’s premiere date.
