Lee Yeon has laughed off dating rumors involving IU that recently spread on overseas social media and Korean blogs.
Lee Yeon spoke about the rumors during an interview on the morning of August 19th at a cafe in Seoul. She was there to discuss her upcoming film The Journey to Gyeongju.
The rumors began after posts claimed that IU and Lee Yeon had been spotted on a date in Seochon. Lee Yeon’s agency denied the claims. Lee Yeon said she had also seen the posts. “I saw those posts too,” she said with a laugh. “I think the rumor spread more overseas because Senior Ji Eun has so many international fans. I saw the photo too.”
She explained what actually happened that day. “I was supposed to have dinner with Ji Eun (IU’s real name) and Yu Su Bin. Yu Su Bin hadn’t arrived yet, so Ji Eun and I had coffee before going to the restaurant.”
The photo was taken from behind, and Lee Yeon said she noticed someone taking pictures. “I didn’t know who was taking the photo, but I knew someone was taking pictures. I guess it ended up spreading on overseas sites and X.”
Lee Yeon also joked about the dating rumors themselves. “The rumors are ridiculous,” she said. “Well, we did go out together. Isn’t that what friends do?” she said with a laugh.
She said she even talked about the rumors with IU. “I told Ji Eun about it, and she said, ‘Looking at it, it’s your fault.’ We just laughed about it.”
The rumors even followed Lee Yeon to the premiere of another independent film. “A fan of Ji Eun came up to me and quietly asked, ‘Are you dating Ji Eun?’ I just laughed it off.”
Lee Yeon said she and IU are simply enjoying the attention because they are close friends. “We’re enjoying it. We’re that close, so it’s actually fun. Since everyone seems to think we have good chemistry, we’re enjoying it too. It wasn’t intentional,” she said, making everyone laugh.
Meanwhile, The Journey to Gyeongju will be released on August 26th.
