A major shift may be unfolding in the controversy surrounding Kim Soo Hyun and the late Kim Sae Ron — but industry insiders say the actor’s road back may still be rocky.
The turning point came after prosecutors sought an arrest warrant for Hoverlab CEO Kim Se Eui, who had publicly alleged that Kim Soo Hyun dated Kim Sae Ron while she was still a minor and bore responsibility for circumstances surrounding her death.
Investigators now believe some of the evidence presented by Kim Se Eui — including KakaoTalk conversations and audio recordings — have been manipulated or edited using AI technology.
According to the warrant request, prosecutors stated Kim Se Eui presented claims “as though they were true without sufficient fact-checking or verification,” despite there being no evidence Kim Soo Hyun dated Kim Sae Ron as a minor or had sexual relations with her during middle school.
Police also alleged that chat screenshots shown during press conferences were edited, including changing an “Unknown” contact into “Kim Soo Hyun.”
Kim Se Eui is scheduled to appear in court on May 26th for a pre-arrest hearing, and public sentiment surrounding Kim Soo Hyun has already begun noticeably shifting.
Kim Soo Hyun had initially denied the dating rumors entirely before later clarifying that he and Kim Sae Ron dated only after she became an adult.
If prosecutors ultimately prove evidence manipulation allegations in court, many believe Kim Soo Hyun could naturally begin moving toward an entertainment comeback. A favorable outcome could also strengthen his position in ongoing lawsuits tied to advertising penalties and damages.
Still, the process is expected to take time. Even if Kim Soo Hyun receives favorable rulings, the case could continue through multiple appeals and stretch well beyond a year.
There is also lingering public criticism over the actor initially denying the relationship entirely before later acknowledging they dated as adults — something that could still affect public perception and legal disputes with brands.
At the same time, the possibility remains that the court could reject the arrest warrant request altogether.
Police previously asked the National Forensic Service to examine key files connected to the case, and the agency concluded last year that it could not definitively determine whether the evidence had been manipulated. Prosecutors, however, said they still found signs of fabrication significant enough to seek detention.
Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team said they are cautiously monitoring the situation for now, calling the investigation developments highly unusual and saying they plan to closely watch whether the court approves the arrest warrant for Kim Se Eui.
