Park Chan Wook’s Star-Studded Western Nears Massive $150 Million Deal

Director Park Chan Wook is already generating major buzz at the Cannes Film Festival with his upcoming Western film The Brigands of Rattlecreek.

According to Deadline, negotiations are currently underway for the film’s North American distribution rights, with Warner Bros.-owned company Clockwork reportedly emerging as the frontrunner. The deal is said to be worth around $150 million.

The outlet reported that Clockwork beat out multiple competitors for the rights and is now in final negotiations.

The Brigands of Rattlecreek follows a sheriff and a doctor seeking revenge against a group of bandits who raid their town during a violent storm. Park Chan Wook is directing and adapting the screenplay.

The project has already assembled a major Hollywood cast, including Matthew McConaughey, Austin Butler and Pedro Pascal. Tang Wei, who previously starred in Park’s acclaimed film Decision to Leave, is also set to appear.

The large-scale production is currently in pre-production, with the budget expected to exceed $60 million. Filming is slated to begin early next year.
