Kim Seon Ho became visibly emotional during the press conference for Coupang Play’s upcoming variety show Bonjour Bakery.

The event was held on May 6th at Community House Masil in Seoul and attended by cast members Kim Hee Ae, Cha Seung Won, Kim Seon Ho and Lee Ki Taek, alongside producer Park Geun Hyung and writer Kim Ran Joo.

During the press conference, writer Kim Ran Joo shared the deeply personal story that inspired the program, revealing it began with memories of her late father, who spent years battling illness.

“My father used to travel back and forth between Yeosu and Seoul for hospital visits, and I would always see him off at Yongsan Station,” she recalled. “We would wait at a café there, and one day he pointed at a dessert cake in the display case and asked what it was, so I bought it for him.”

She continued, “I remember thinking it was the first time I’d ever seen him eat cake. He loved it so much, and I realized, ‘Oh, my dad likes things like this.’”

Kim Ran Joo shared that the two began trying different foods together after that memory. “He passed away two years ago, but those moments became a source of strength for me,” she said, becoming emotional during the speech.

She explained that the show was created with the hope of giving people a comfortable space to spend time with their parents — especially those who may not have had enough opportunities to do so before.

As Kim Ran Joo spoke, Kim Seon Ho appeared teary-eyed.

The writer also praised the warmth the actor showed during filming, saying, “When older guests hesitated and wondered, ‘Can we really go into this bakery?’ Seon Ho approached them first. Thanks to him, they felt much more comfortable walking in. I was very grateful for that.”

Kim Hee Ae, who worked closely with Kim Seon Ho on the show’s hall team, also complimented him. “He has this gentle, almost herbivore-like image,” she joked, “but when he works, he’s charismatic and very manly. He has leadership too. It was surprising.”

She added that she had recently watched one of his plays and was impressed by his acting. “Watching his performance made me think, ‘I should work harder too.’ It was a refreshing kind of motivation.”
