Disney Plus is bringing a beloved global bestseller to life—with a massive ensemble to match.
The streamer has officially begun production on The Miracles of the Namiya General Store, a Korean series adaptation of Keigo Higashino’s novel, which has sold over 13 million copies worldwide.
The project features a standout ensemble including Ryu Seung Ryong, Kim Hye Yoon, Moon Sang Min, Lee Chae Min, Yoon Kyung Ho, Go Ah Sung, Lee Soo Kyung, Kim Min Ha, Bae In Hyuk, Park Hee Soon, Oh Na Ra, Moon Woo Jin, Park Se Wan, along with rising talents Kang You Seok, Park Jung Woo, and Kim Seong Jeong. Special appearances will include Yum Jung Ah, Yeom Hye Ran, Jung Chae Yeon and Jang Dong Yoon.
The story follows three petty thieves who hide inside a long-closed general store, only to begin replying to letters that mysteriously arrive from the past—setting off a time-crossing fantasy filled with emotion and unexpected connections. Filming officially kicked off on April 14th.
At the center of the story is the shop’s owner, played by Ryu Seung Ryong, whose past work—including major hits and Disney Plus’s Moving—has made him a standout both domestically and globally. Meanwhile, the trio of thieves will be played by Kang You Seok from Resident Playbook, Park Jung Woo from 20th Century Girl, and Kim Seong Jeong from Head over Heels, bringing fresh energy to the story.
The series is directed and written by Park Young Ju, known for her detailed storytelling in Citizen of a Kind, with production handled by The Lamp, the company behind a string of critically acclaimed and commercially successful films including Salmokji: Whispering Water and A Taxi Driver.
With its emotionally rich story, a sweeping fantasy premise, and a lineup of actors spanning generations, The Miracles of the Namiya General Store is shaping up to be one of Disney+’s most anticipated Korean originals. The series is currently filming and is set for a global release in 2027.
