Galaxy Corporation, the agency representing G-Dragon, has issued a formal apology following a controversy over a racially insensitive outfit worn by the artist.
On May 3, the agency stated, “We sincerely apologize for the inclusion of inappropriate text on the artist’s performance outfit.”
The issue began after the K-Spark in Macau performance on May 2nd, where global fans noticed that G-Dragon’s clothing featured a derogatory phrase in Dutch. The text, “RONNY, EEN GEILE NEGER JONGEN,” translates to “Ronny, a sexually aroused Black boy,” and contains a well-known racial slur.
In response to the backlash, Galaxy Corporation acknowledged the need for better cultural sensitivity and a more responsible review process.
“The agency explained, ‘This incident has made us realize the importance of thoroughly reviewing our styling and creative processes. We will take a closer look at and improve our overall internal review and approval procedures.”
They added, “Going forward, we will handle all activities related to our artist with greater responsibility and care, ensuring that the diverse cultural backgrounds and values of our global fans are respected.”
Finally, the agency apologized again, saying, “We sincerely apologize for causing disappointment and concern through this incident.”
