Salmokji: Whispering Water is off to a blazing start, hitting its break-even point just seven days after release—the fastest milestone for any film in 2026 so far.
According to the Korean Film Council on April 14th, the film has held the No. 1 spot at the box office for six consecutive days. By the morning of its seventh day, it had surpassed 813,000 moviegoers, officially crossing its break-even mark of 800,000 admissions.
The film’s rapid success signals a strong comeback for spring horror, drawing comparisons to past hits like Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum. It’s also sparking a wave of buzz online, with viewers sharing theories and interpretations, fueling what many are calling a full-blown “horror craze.”

At the center of it all is Kim Hye Yoon, who has emerged as a horror standout with her latest role. She stars alongside Lee Jong Won, Kim Jun Han, Kim Young Sung, Oh Dong Min, Yoon Jae Chan and Jang Da A.
Directed by Lee Sang Min, the film follows a crew who return to a reservoir after a mysterious figure appears in road-view footage—only to come face-to-face with something lurking beneath the dark water.
With strong word of mouth and momentum on its side, Salmokji: Whispering Water is expected to keep its box office streak going well into its second week.
