With the release of Salmokji: Whispering Water, all eyes are on its opening-day reviews and box office performance.

The film centers on a production crew returning to a remote reservoir for reshoots after a mysterious, unidentified figure is spotted in the background of the location’s road-view footage. What begins as a routine trip to the fog-shrouded Salmokji reservoir—a place already haunted by local legends—quickly spirals into a nightmare.

Led by producer Suin (played by Kim Hye Yoon), the crew finds themselves trapped in a race against time to finish filming before sunset. However, chaos ensues when a missing senior colleague suddenly reappears, and unexplained events begin to plague the set. The harder they struggle to escape the growing terror, the deeper they are pulled into it, despite Gitae’s (Lee Jong Won) efforts to protect Suin.

Directed by Lee Sang Min, the film features a strong ensemble cast including Kim Hye Yoon, Lee Jong Won and Kim Jun Han.

Early audience feedback has been largely positive, with impressive scores across major Korean platforms, including a 9.62 on Naver and a 93% Golden Egg index at CGV.

Many viewers have praised the film for its immersive sound design and the absence of “weak links” in the acting department. Viewer reviews include comments like, “The sound intensifies the fear. It was good that there were no bad actors”, “The jump scares are predictable, but the way they surprise you is different from what you expect, making it intensely startling. The actors’ performances were flawless, creating maximum immersion” and “A well-made Korean horror film after a long time.”

There were also reviews stating, “It felt like a patchwork of various things. Too many jump scares like a haunted house”, “Not as scary as expected. A few jump scares and you’re left wondering what the point was” and “The eerie atmosphere was genuinely good, but other aspects were disappointing.”
