The new horror film Salmokji: Whispering Water, starring Kim Hye Yoon, Lee Jong Won, and Jang Daa, confirmed it will thrill moviegoers on April 8th.
The first trailer teased the terror of Salmokji: Whispering Water that awaits beneath dark, still waters already left fans anticipating what is to come. A couple traverses the depths of a pitch-black, mysterious body of water that a ghost hunter revealed on her horror exploration video channel. Tension escalates as an unknown voice emerges from a ghost box and eerie sounds echo through the forest. Although the horrific trailer stimulated the imagination of viewers everywhere, there are three key moments viewers must know before watching this story unfold in theaters.
The True Mystery of ‘The Salmokji: Whispering Water’
“No one can ever get out of there alive.” The words we hear in the trailer that evoke chills hint at a terrifying monster in the deep– but what inspired this point? Director Lee Sang Min revealed that he conceived Salmokji while looking at a Street View app where the filming camera cut off at the entrance of a reservoir. Wondering why it was only filmed up to that point, Director Lee perfected extreme horror through the unsettling set of a reservoir that anyone can visit, but from which there is no escape once a foot is stepped in, and no one can see what happens past that.
A Fresh New Cast of Talent
A fresh array of seven actors combined their takes on Korean horror to create a realistic storyline! Kim Hye Yoon returns to the screen after four years as a “horror queen” through Su In, a horror channel producer and Lee Jong Won, who plays Ki Tae, is one of the most anticipated actors of 2026, taking on his first leading role in a commercial film. Jang Da A, Kim Jun Han, Kim Young Sung, Oh Dong Min, and Yoon Jae Chan make up the rest of the incredible ensemble, with each coming face-to-face with Salmokji. The drawn-out fear and realistic reactions to the on-set horrors promise to have movie-goers on the edge of their seats.
