Lee Byung Hun, Han Ji Min and Lee Hee Jun have officially joined the cast of the upcoming drama The Koreans (working title), with filming set to begin next week.
According to industry sources on March 6th, the series will be directed by Ahn Gil Ho and produced by Studio AA.
The drama reunites Lee Byung Hun and Han Ji Min as a married couple. While the two previously appeared in the dramas All In (2003) and Our Blues (2022), they did not share scenes together in those projects, making this their first time acting opposite each other.
The Koreans has been in development since last year and reimagines the popular FX series The Americans in a Korean setting. The original story followed Soviet spies living undercover in the United States during the Cold War. The Korean adaptation will instead take place during South Korea’s military dictatorship era, blending espionage storytelling with the country’s historical backdrop.
With its large-scale production and ambitious scope, the series is expected to be released on Disney+.
The project is already generating attention thanks to its combination of an epic historical setting and intense spy narrative. It also brings together director Ahn Gil Ho, known for hits such as The Glory, Happiness and Stranger, with acclaimed actors Lee Byung Hun, Han Ji Min and Lee Hee Jun.
The Koreans is shaping up to be a major espionage drama as it begins production.
