Disney Plus original series Made in Korea‘s director Woo Min Ho has shared some behind-the-scenes insights about the show, including Hyun Bin’s villain role and the debate over Jung Woo Sung’s performance.
In an interview on January 19th, Woo spoke about his 1970s political thriller, which tells the story of Baek Ki Tae (played by Hyun Bin), a man trying to use the country for his personal gain, and Jang Geon Young (Jung Woo Sung), a prosecutor determined to stop him.
Season 2 Is on the Way
Woo confirmed that Made in Korea was always meant to be a multi-season series. “Seasons 1 and 2 were planned from the start,” he said. “We are already filming Season 2. I felt that this story was too big for just a movie, which is why we made it a 12-episode drama.”
Hyun Bin’s Villainous Role

Fans have been fascinated by Hyun Bin’s performance as the villain, with many commenting on how “excessively good-looking” he is in the role. Woo shared his thoughts on this reaction, saying, “I wanted viewers to feel the power Baek Ki Tae has. Hyun Bin played a hero in my previous project Harbin, but he’s playing a villain this time, which was exciting for me.”
Jung Woo Sung’s Acting Debate

One of the most talked-about aspects of the show has been the criticism of Jung Woo Sung’s performance, with some calling it “bad acting.” Woo addressed the controversy, explaining, “”The tragic history of a nation destroyed a family, and I saw Jung Woo Sung’s character’s over-the-top laughter as a reflection of that trauma.”
Woo respects the audience’s opinions but remains puzzled by the reactions. “If viewers saw it differently, I respect that and don’t feel the need to argue. However, I’m still wondering why some people called an actor with over 30 years of experience ‘bad at acting,'” he said.
Woo teased that Jang Geon Young’s character will change in Season 2. “The character will be different in Season 2 since nine years have passed. In Season 1, he lost by showing too much emotion. But in Season 2, he’ll come back with new weapons.”
