Filming has officially begun for director Jang Hoon’s new historical film, Canvas of Blood.
The movie features a powerhouse cast led by Kim Nam Gil and Park Bo Gum, who will play royal brothers caught in a struggle for power.
Set in the Joseon Dynasty, the film centers on a famous painting called ‘Mongyudowondo’, which translates to Dream Journey to the Peach Blossom Land. The painting was commissioned by the artistic Prince Anpyeong after he had a dream of a utopia. The story follows Prince Anpyeong and his ambitious older brother, Prince Suyang, as the painting drives them to pursue their conflicting visions of an ideal world.
Kim Nam Gil stars as the ambitious Suyang, who grows increasingly cruel as he vies for the throne and becomes paranoid about his younger brother’s intentions. Park Bo Gum plays Anpyeong, known as Joseon’s “Prince of the Arts,” a refined calligrapher and painter whose idealism puts him in conflict with his brother.
The film also stars Lee Hyun Wook as Ahn Gyeon, the legendary painter who created the masterpiece, alongside a stacked supporting cast of veteran actors including Park Won Sang, Choi Deok Moon and Kim Byung Chul.
Canvas of Blood is the first historical film from acclaimed director Jang Hoon, whose previous works include the smash-hit A Taxi Driver, Secret Reunion and The Front Line. Production for the film officially began on October 14th.
