Go Youn Jung recently shared how she learned the true weight of being a lead actress through tvN’s drama Resident Playbook, which concluded its 12-episode run yesterday. Go portrayed Oh Lee Young, a first-year OB-GYN resident at Jongno Yulje Hospital, who anchored the show’s narrative.

With a full year between filming and broadcast, Go found herself experiencing the show almost as a viewer. “I filmed it a year ago, so watching it as it aired felt fresh—even I forgot some parts,” she said with a laugh. “When people asked me when Yi Young and Do Won would finally get together, I honestly couldn’t remember the episode, so I just rolled with ‘Next week, maybe.'”

The actress formed tight bonds with her on-screen peers Shin Sia, Kang You Seok and Han Ye Zee. “We’ve become genuine friends. We even went on a trip together,” she shared. When Go traveled to Canada for her next project, her co-stars surprised her by flying in during her two-day break to spend time with her.

The unexpected popularity of the “Oh-Gu Couple” romance between her and Jung Jun Won’s character caught everyone by surprise. “None of us—including the writers and director—thought it would get that kind of reaction,” she admitted. “I was even worried viewers might find Yi Young’s one-sided love a bit too much. But they rooted for them. It was touching.”

Despite their eight-year age gap, Go praised Jung for his natural performance and humor. “He’s a really good actor. Even after the rehearsal, I’d show different reactions in the actual shoot. I really didn’t feel the age gap,” she started off. “And he made everyone laugh, even when his jokes didn’t land. We all loved him,” she finished with a joke.

Then what’s her own dating style like? “I might not hang on for six months like Yi Young did, but I do believe in expressing how I feel, leave no regrets.” Talking about how her role shared a lot of similarities with herself, Go explained, “The most similar thing about us? Going ‘all in’ when we’re passionate about something, and being affectionate. The biggest difference? I’m probably better at social interactions than she is (laughs).”

As for a possible return to Resident Playbook, the star shared, “Even if it’s just a cameo, I’d love to come back with our original four. Just like how the Hospital Playlist characters made surprise appearances—I think fans would really enjoy seeing us again too.”

Go is now filming Can This Love Be Translated?, her next project with Netflix. “It’s much more glamorous and fantasy-like compared to ‘Resident Playbook.’ Honestly, ‘Yi Young and Do Won’ feel like a big mountain I now have to climb over,” she laughed. “But I hope viewers will enjoy what’s next just as much.”
