Won Bin’s name is back in the headlines after 15 years, but even Kim Sae Ron might have wanted to keep him out of it.
YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute, also known as HoverLab Inc., released a voice recording on May 7th, provided by an informant from New Jersey, USA, claiming it captured a conversation with the late Kim Sae Ron. In the recording, a voice believed to be Kim Sae Ron’s claims she dated actor Kim Soo Hyun starting in middle school.
Kim Se Ui, head of Garosero Research Institute, confirmed the informant directly provided the file and stated that the informant directly provided him with the file.
The situation took an unexpected turn when the informant’s American wife appeared in the recording evidence presented by HoverLab and mentioned actor Won Bin. She expressed gratitude, claiming he had personally visited them. However, her statements were vague, describing the visit as “quiet” and “deeply meaningful” without clarifying why or where Won Bin have visited. No details or proof were provided, though she repeatedly expressed gratitude.

Won Bin’s agency, EDAM Entertainment, responded, stating, “We have no idea why the informant’s wife is thanking Won Bin. Beyond attending Kim Sae Ron’s funeral to pay his respects, he has no connection to this situation.”
Kim Sae Ron passed away in February 2025, and Won Bin made a rare public appearance at her funeral, his first in front of cameras in about 15 years. This sparked rumors, including speculation that he offered a substantial condolence payment or intended to settle a 700 million KRW ($4.9 million) debt on Kim Sae Ron’s behalf. Won Bin initially remained silent on these claims, but Eden Nine addressed the misinformation after the informant’s wife directly referenced him.
The controversy over Kim Soo Hyun’s alleged relationship with Kim Sae Ron has intensified, inadvertently drawing figures like Won Bin into the narrative. His agency emphasized that his only involvement was attending the funeral to honor the deceased, adding, “It’s unfortunate that Won Bin continues to be mentioned in this unwarranted context. We hope this stops.”
