Dahyun is making waves with her silver screen debut, revealing the behind-the-scenes stories of filming her first on-screen kiss with co-star Jinyoung and the protective reactions from her TWICE bandmates.
The idol-turned-actress sat down for an interview on February 27th to promote her new film You Are the Apple of My Eye, directed by Cho Young Myoung. The romantic drama follows the story of Jin Woo (Jinyoung), a carefree teenager who spends countless days working up the courage to confess his feelings to Sun Ah (Dahyun). The film is a Korean remake of the beloved 2011 Taiwanese romance of the same name.
While Dahyun has conquered stages worldwide as a member of global phenomenon TWICE, You Are the Apple of My Eye marks her first venture into film acting.
Earlier the same day, Jinyoung revealed in a separate interview that he worried about potential backlash from TWICE’s devoted fanbase regarding the kiss scene. When asked if she shared similar concerns during preparation, Dahyun opened up, “To be honest, the crying scene was the first, building up emotions was also my first, and the kiss scene—everything was the first for me. Not just the kiss scene, but actually every scene got me nervous.”
She added, “Jinyoung has more acting experience and was also a K-pop idol before me—he made me feel very comfortable. And since the director and I had many conversations, I really trusted his direction.”
Dahyun also shared the amusing behind-the-scenes reactions from fellow TWICE members upon learning about her kiss scene. “We have the messenger Bubble where we communicate with fans. Each member uses Bubble individually, and I saw on social media what the members shared with fans,” she explained. “Apparently, fans asked one of our members, ‘Dahyun has a kiss scene, are you okay with that?’ That member replied to the question with ‘I’m feeling rather disturbed about it too.’ Then added something like, ‘Just close your eyes during that part.'”
Reflecting on her bandmates’ protective responses, Dahyun smiled, “The older members have seen me since I was so young, so I think that’s why. They still see me as their little sister, their baby. I understand how they feel because I had a similar experience recently when our youngest member, Tzuyu, released her solo album and had her first music show shoot.”
“I went to support Tzuyu that day. It was my first time seeing her fill the entire stage by herself, and I was impressed by how hard she worked so early in the morning. Seeing our youngest member boldly perform alone in front of so many people made me incredibly proud, and I sincerely wanted to cheer her on,” Dahyun recalled. “I think the older members probably felt something similar toward me.”
Meanwhile, You Are the Apple of My Eye hit the theaters on February 21st.
