Koo Jun Yup has broken his silence following the devastating loss of his wife, Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, revealing he’s experiencing “unbearable pain that feels like my insides are being torn apart.” Hsu passed away on April 3rd due to pneumonia complications from influenza during a trip to Japan.
In an emotional Instagram post on the 6th, the Korean music star expressed his profound gratitude to those mourning his wife while addressing swirling controversies. “I had neither the strength nor the desire to speak,” Koo wrote, adding that “even before the immense pain of loss and time of mourning could pass, evil people began to disparage our family’s and my love.”
He didn’t hold back, stating, “Some pretend to be sad while walking in the rain, while others create fake news about insurance and costs to hurt our family.” He continued, “It truly frightens me that such evil people actually exist in this world,” before making a heartfelt plea: “Couldn’t you please let my Barbie rest in peace? I beg you.”
Addressing the mounting public interest in his late wife’s inheritance, Koo announced a decisive plan. “The precious inheritance Barbie left behind was accumulated through her blood and sweat to protect her beloved family,” he declared, revealing his intention to transfer his portion of the inheritance to his mother-in-law. He added, “For the children’s portion, I will take legal measures through lawyers to protect it until they become adults, preventing bad people from touching it.”
The star reflected on his time with Hsu with profound emotion: “The time I spent with Barbie was a precious and valuable gift that I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world,” expressing that his final duty would be “protecting the family that Barbie loved most.”
He concluded his message with a bow of gratitude to everyone who loved and mourned his late wife.
