Do Kyung Soo, better known as D.O., opened up about filming kiss scenes with both Won Jin Ah and Shin Ye Eun in the upcoming fantasy romance Secret: Untold Melody.
During a recent interview ahead of the film’s release, the EXO member-turned-actor discussed his role in the Korean remake of Jay Chou’s beloved Taiwanese film. Secret: Untold Melody follows the magical moments that unfold when Yu Jun and Jung Ah unexpectedly meet in a campus practice room harboring time-bending secrets.
Taking on the pianist role originally played by Jay Chou himself, Do Kyung Soo admitted to feeling the pressure of the remake. “I felt a lot of pressure because the original was so successful,” he shared. “I spent a lot of time thinking about how I should approach the role. When I received the script, it was half excitement, half pressured, but the anticipation won out. The feeling of ‘this will be fun’ came first.”
While the original was set in high school, the Korean adaptation moves the story to college. “I received the script while I was in the military,” Do revealed. “I was relieved it was set in college rather than high school—playing a high school student after military service would have been challenging. I’ve never actually experienced college life myself, which made it even more exciting. I still haven’t experienced campus life. Even now, I think about wanting to experience university.”
Addressing the kiss scenes with both Won Jin Ah and Shin Ye Eun, the actor brought humor to the conversation. “Since it’s a romance, I focused on how to make it look pretty and natural,” he explained. “Rather than feeling shy or good, I’m mostly just focused. With so many people watching, those thoughts don’t even cross my mind. I approach it professionally.”
When asked about his preparation for the scenes, he shyly responded, “I make sure to brush my teeth well to avoid causing any discomfort.” As for his satisfaction with the final result, he confidently stated, “I think they turned out well. I prepared thoroughly.”
Secret: Untold Melody hits theaters on January 27th.
