Hwang Min Hyun has been offered the male lead in tvN’s upcoming drama Iseop’s Romance, but his casting has not been confirmed.
His agency, Pledis Entertainment, told Ten Asia on September 15th, “We have only received a casting offer for Iseop’s Romance. Nothing has been confirmed yet.”
YTN reported that Hwang had been cast as Tae Yi Seop and was preparing for the role. Based on the web novel of the same name, Iseop’s Romance is an office romance about Tae Yi Seop, an elite employee who seems to have it all but struggles with romance, and his secretary, Kang Min Kyung, a highly capable employee who unexpectedly challenges his perfect track record.
Tae Yi Seop has always been at the top of his game, quickly climbing the corporate ladder. But when Kang Min Kyung becomes his secretary and causes him to experience second place for the first time, his feelings toward her begin to change.
Lee Jong Suk was originally cast as Tae Yi Seop but later stepped down due to production and scheduling changes. The production company subsequently announced plans to recast the role.
Choi Yoon Ji, who was reportedly being considered for the female lead, also withdrew from the project on September 11th due to scheduling conflicts. With both lead roles now being recast, attention is on whether Hwang Min Hyun will ultimately take over the role originally intended for Lee Jong Suk.
Hwang has continued to build his acting career in recent years, appearing in Live On, the Alchemy of Souls series, My Lovely Liar and Study Group. Following his military discharge, he confirmed his return for Study Group Season 2 and recently wrapped filming.
Iseop’s Romance is set in the same fictional universe as Kim Eon Hee’s other work, A Casual Lie. Lee Jun Hyuk is set to appear in that series as Tae Jun Seop.
