The 31st Busan International Film Festival has unveiled 12 titles across its “On Screen,” “Korean Cinema Today – Special Premiere” and “Korean Cinema Today – Panorama” sections.
This year’s festival runs from October 6th to 15th at the Busan Cinema Center.
The “On Screen” section, which spotlights upcoming drama series, will feature three world premieres.
Dead-End Job stars Lee Jae Wook, Go Min Si, Kim Min Ha and Lee Hee Joon in a mystery built around a suspicious part-time job. It is directed by Kim Da Min, whose FAQ won honors at BIFF in 2024.
The Remarried Empress, based on the hit web novel, stars Shin Mina, Ju Ji Hoon, Lee Jong Suk and Lee Se Young. Jo Soo Won, whose credits include I Hear Your Voice and Still 17, directs.
Han Jun Hee’s Road (working title) stars Son Suk Ku, Eita Nagayama and Kim Shin Rock in a serial-murder mystery that crosses national borders.
The “Korean Cinema Today – Special Premiere” section will also present three world premieres.
Sapiens stars Jung Sung Il and Yoo Jae Myung as a kidnapping suspect and lawyer forced to work together to uncover the truth behind the abduction of a chaebol heir.
Generational Regret (literal title), directed by Kim Sung Yoon, is a family comedy starring Jung Jae Young, Lee Yi Kyung, Kim Joo Ryoung and Kim Ah Young.
Cattle Run pairs Ryu Seung Ryong and Park Hae Joon as estranged brothers who reunite to protect a calf born as their village faces a crisis.
Six films make up the “Korean Cinema Today – Panorama” lineup.
Lee Sun Bin and Yoo Jae Myung star in comedy Ugly Duckling Ms. Maeng, while Kim Hye Ja makes her first film appearance in nine years with Song Il Gon’s Still Brilliant (literal title).
Handwritten (literal title) stars Jung Sung Il and Park Ji Hyun in a political drama about a justice minister nominee confronted with allegations of coercive investigations from his past.
Yoon Dan Bi returns with her second feature, The World Before, following a 17-year-old girl on an island as she encounters unfamiliar emotions over the summer.
Last Interview assembles Cho Yi Hyun, Kim Jae Won, Shin Seung Ho, Kang You Seok, Kwak Dong Yeon and Bae Kang Hee in a mystery surrounding anonymous envelopes that expose candidates’ secrets during a final job interview.
Na Hong Jin’s Cannes-selected Hope rounds out the lineup with a cast including Hwang Jung Min, Zo In Sung, Jung Ho Yeon, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender.
