Kwak Dong Yeon is preparing to temporarily step away from fans to fulfill his mandatory military service.

According to MyDaily on July 21, the actor will enlist as an active-duty soldier on Aug. 25. Born in March 1997, the 29-year-old recently received his enlistment date.

His enlistment means he will not be able to join tvN’s The Village Barber 2. He will, however, take part in a 10th-anniversary special for Love in the Moonlight, set to film in early August and air after his enlistment.

Netflix’s The East Palace, released July 17, marks his final drama before entering the military. Kwak plays the crown prince, a character kept tightly under wraps before the series’ release, and earned praise for making a powerful impression.

He is expected to be discharged in February 2028.
