Assassins has confirmed a Chuseok holiday release and unveiled two launch posters.
Starring Yoo Hae Jin, Park Hae Il and Lee Min Ho, the film is a mystery thriller inspired by the first lady shooting incident that took place on Aug. 15th, 1974. Based on records left behind and unanswered questions surrounding the case, the story follows a search for the truth behind what really happened.
Assassins is set after the shooting of the First Lady on Liberation Day in 1974, an incident broadcast live across the country. The film uses cinematic imagination to explore the suspicions and possible forces behind the case, marking the first feature film to take on the incident. It is directed by Hur Jin Ho, known for The Last Princess and Forbidden Dream.
Yoo Hae Jin plays Cheol Gu, a detective who was in charge of security at the scene. Yoo, who led audiences earlier this year with The King’s Warden and has appeared in five 10-million-viewer hits, is expected to anchor the film as Cheol Gu begins questioning the investigation headquarters’ statement, which does not match what he witnessed, and follows his instincts as a detective to uncover the truth.
Park Hae Il plays Jae Hwan, a veteran newspaper editor who pursues the truth despite outside pressure. Park will portray a journalist driven by professional duty and sharp insight as he moves closer to the heart of the case.
Lee Min Ho stars as Young Il, a rookie reporter who covers the scene of the incident and continues investigating at great personal risk to reveal the truth.

The film is produced by Hive Media Corp., the company behind 12.12: The Day and The Man Standing Next. The production team also includes cinematographer Lee Mo Gae and lighting director Lee Sung Hwan of 12.12: The Day and Exhuma, as well as production designer Kim Byung Han and VFX supervisor Jung Jae Hoon.
The newly released posters feature an image of a hand holding a gun and a black-and-white stage. Assassins is set to open in theaters this Chuseok.
