Koo Jun Yup, aka DJ Koo, is gradually finding his footing again following the loss of his wife, late Taiwanese star Barbie Hsu.
According to recent Taiwanese media reports, Barbie Hsu’s younger sister, actress and TV host Dee Hsu, shared an update on Koo while returning to the spotlight after a year-long break. Dee Hsu recently resumed her role as the main MC of the talk show Dee’s Talk and spoke about her brother-in-law during a promotional event for a cosmetic brand.
She revealed that Koo is currently focusing on painting, often sending the family his work. “Every time he shares a piece, I’m surprised—they capture Barbie’s gaze and even her soul,” she said, adding that the artworks feel too meaningful to keep private. She expressed hope that he might one day hold an exhibition so more people can see Barbie Hsu through his eyes.
Dee Hsu also shared that Koo has been spending time with family, including weekly meals, and is slowly recovering. “There’s more light in his eyes now,” she said, noting that he has even begun joking and smiling again.
DJ Koo and Barbie Hsu first met in Taiwan in 1998 and reconnected more than two decades later, eventually marrying in 2022. Their reunion captured widespread attention at the time, though their time together was tragically cut short. Barbie Hsu passed away in February last year during a family trip to Japan due to complications from influenza, including pneumonia and sepsis.
