Chris Appelhans is heading to Korea and bringing his family along.

The KPop Demon Hunters co-director, who recently won two Oscars, has arrived in Korea with his Korean wife and their 5-year-old son to film the variety show Welcome, First Time in Korea?

According to the show’s producers, Appelhans entered the country on April 1st and will begin filming a special family-focused episode centered on their trip through Korea.

Appelhans co-directed the Netflix animated film KPop Demon Hunters alongside Maggie Kang, earning major recognition at the 98th Academy Awards. Known for his deep interest in Korean culture, he has often spoken about his personal connection through his wife.

The upcoming episode will follow Appelhans and his family as they explore Korea together. A key highlight will be his young son, who developed an interest in the Korean language after watching the film, experiencing the country firsthand.

Producers noted that Appelhans’ previous research trips to Korea influenced his work, and this visit is expected to be just as meaningful.

Appelhans is also scheduled to attend a press conference later that day celebrating the film’s Oscar wins, drawing further attention as his filming schedule overlaps with official appearances.

Welcome, First Time in Korea? airs Thursdays at 8:30 PM KST, with Appelhans’ episode set to premiere in late May.
