BTS leader RM is speaking candidly ahead of the group’s highly anticipated comeback next year—even revealing he even wondered whether BTS should disband.
On December 6th, RM connected with fans during a live stream, updating them on the group’s plans and sharing how he has really been feeling.
Responding to fan questions, he said, “A lot of people ask, ‘Why did you waste the second half of 2025?’ or ‘Why didn’t you do anything?’ We never wanted to waste time. I wanted to do so many things after being discharged, but there were circumstances I simply cannot talk about. I don’t have the right to fully explain them.”
RM continued, “I really wanted to work. Our last concert was in October 2022—it’s already been more than three years. I want to perform right now, but preparing for a show takes a huge amount of work, and the personal pressure is intense.” He admitted that the situation became so overwhelming that “for the past month, I couldn’t even sleep. I wondered if I should get prescribed sleep medication.”
“I’m truly sorry for making you wait so long,” he added. “But we have our reasons, and we can’t come back until we’re able to give you something you’ll be proud of. We have to consider the scale, the timing, everything. It might sound like an excuse, but please understand. We will return—and even if it’s not to your expectations, we’ll give it everything we’ve got.”
RM also shocked fans by acknowledging he had seriously questioned the future of BTS. “I’ve thought thousands of times, ‘Should we just disband? Should we stop working as a team?'” he said. “But the reason we’re still together is the love between the members and our respect for our fans.”
He ended the livestream with a message straight from the heart: “I love you. Even if it doesn’t always come back to me, I will keep loving you in my own way.”
BTS has been on military hiatus since Jin enlisted in 2022. With Suga completing service in June, all members have now finished their military duties. The group is preparing for a full-group comeback in the spring, and global anticipation is already skyrocketing.
