Monster rookie Annie of ALLDAY PROJECT and singer-actor Hwang Minhyun have been named the new hosts for the 2025 MBC Gayo Daejejeon, one of Korea’s biggest year-end music festivals. However, the announcement has been met with mixed reactions from the public.
The hosting role is a huge get for Annie, as she will be taking the baton from Girls’ Generation’s YoonA, who has been the face of the show for the past ten years. The move is being seen as a “passing of the torch” to a new generation. For Hwang Minhyun, the gig will mark his first official activity after completing his mandatory military service on December 20th.
What makes the choice of Annie particularly bold is that this high-profile, live broadcast will be her first-ever solo activity since debuting, bypassing the more traditional route of a solo music stage or variety show appearance.
While many are excited, Annie’s selection has sparked a more critical debate online. Many questioned her experience, with one commenter writing, “Isn’t she too much of a rookie for this?” An alleged industry insider even speculated, “It’s a year-end show… they probably had a really hard time casting anyone else.”
Others cynically pointed to her famous family background, with one user writing, “I guess it really is a class-based society, lol.” There was also a mix of concern and support. “Her diction is pretty good, but if she makes even one small mistake, she’ll get roasted online,” one person commented. However, many are still optimistic, with another simply stating, “But I think she’ll do well.”

The 2025 MBC Gayo Daejejeon will air live on December 31st.
