Sun Hengyu, a former Boys II Planet contestant who was recently hailed as a hero for intervening in an on-street assault, is now clarifying the details of the incident after a TV news program inaccurately reported on his actions.
The TV show Crime Chief recently covered the story and reportedly praised Sun Hengyu for subduing the assailant with a “chokehold.” However, the trainee himself has now corrected the report, stating that he did not use such a technique.

This aligns with the detailed account he gave on a recent Instagram Live. He explained that his primary goal was to de-escalate the situation and prevent anyone from getting seriously hurt. He specifically noted that he had to stop another bystander from applying a Jiu-Jitsu move that could have broken the assailant’s ankle. “I just wanted nobody to get hurt, that’s why I went to help,” he stated.

The original story began when a video of Sun Hengyu helping to stop the assault of a taxi driver in Seoul went viral. The new, inaccurate TV report has frustrated his fans. “I’ve been going around saying 100 times that he wasn’t the one who choked the man,” one fan wrote online, criticizing the show’s careless reporting.
Sun Hengyu, a former member of the groups BLANK2Y and DV.OL, competed on Boys II Planet earlier this year. Police are still investigating the original assault.
